Early intervention with a corrective removable brace is recommended in cases where children have a bite that is not centred. Wearing a jaw training appliance encourages the developing jaw to build up new bone in order to push forward and correct an uneven bite.
Jaw training devices can be worn on both the upper and lower teeth beginning at age 6 for a short period of time and may be changed for a fixed brace around 12 years of age. Early intervention in crossbite and overbite problems mean that later jaw surgeries can often be avoided.
Corrective appliances may be removed
Treatment only possible when jaw tissue is still developing
Later surgeries can often be avoided
